Coming-Soon-General-Logo-240x225           We are sorry - temporarily not avaliable

Chwaka Bay is a shallow lagoon located on the east coast of Unguja Island. The bay is richly covered with mixed assemblages of algae and seagrasses. On its southern fringes, it is bordered by a dense mangrove forest, the largest mangrove on Zanzibar island. A modest fragmented coral reef, part of the extensive reef that fringes the eastern coast of the island, guards the entrance of the bay. The Chwaka Bay mangrove forest is the largest single mangrove stand on Zanzibar. Aerial surveys carried out in the early 1990s indicated that Chwaka Bay mangrove forest totalled 1827 ha but this area has now been significantly reduced. Mangrove cutting is the second most important economic activity after fisheries for the people of Chwaka Bay.

Kayaking at Chwaka Bay has been voted one of the top FOUR MUST DO ACTIVITIES IN ZANZIBAR. Exploring the reef and mangrove forest, viewing the birds at Chwaka bay is a day of high adventure.

An Autumn breeze. Amber and goldenrod leaves dance. The essence of fall in the air. What’s the best way to take in the changing of the seasons? Driving?? Pshhh. Walking?? Nahhh. How about kayaking??? Yup, that’s it.

Join our guides as we paddle across the Chwaka Bay up to Michamwi. With a wide variety of foliage and migratory birds to entertain the senses, there really is no experience quite like it.

The trip will take around 3 hours. We will use our sit on top kayaks. Weather conditions in the fall can be fickle. Previous kayaking experience is recommended but do not worry... Our kayaking tours are designed for all to enjoy... whether your first time or if you are a seasoned paddler.
